Healthy New Year’s Resolutions That Are Great For The Whole Family

The holidays are a time for fun and celebration. But by the end of the season, after indulging in a few extra treats and skipping the gym more times than we’d like to admit, we all start to feel a little out of balance. However, with 2022 right around the corner, there’s no better time to start introducing a few healthy New Year’s resolutions to help you rediscover a healthy balance and get back on track.

Set yourself and your family up for the New Year by introducing a few simple, healthy habits like spending more time outside, eating and making healthier meals, and unplugging from technology every so often.

Get Outside In The New Year

We all spent a lot of time indoors the past few months, and it’s taken a toll on our bodies and minds. Increased stress levels, brain fog, and even higher blood sugar levels can all happen when we’re sedentary indoors for too long.

So why not make it a priority to get outside more? Studies have shown that even as little as 20 minutes outside can improve overall wellbeing. It doesn’t matter if you spend the time gardening in the morning, or walking after dinner.

If you’re looking for a more challenging outdoor activity, try an outdoor sport! Cathedral Oaks Athletic Club has tennis and pickleball courts available year-round.

Resolve to Make and Eat Healthy Meals Together

Another healthy New Year’s resolution you could try is to incorporate more home-cooked meals into your routine. Not only does it offer you the benefits of knowing exactly what’s in your meals, but it also creates space to spend quality time with family or friends while preparing and enjoying the meal together.

While it can be challenging to fit cooking into your routine daily, there are a number of different websites, cookbooks, and other resources where you can pick up quick and healthy recipes. Pinterest is a great place to start.

Make Tech-Free Time Your Top New Year’s Resolution

We spend an enormous amount of time online. Unfortunately, we all know too much time staring at screens all day can negatively affect our mental state.

So, if you find yourself (or your family) glued to your phones and computers, why not try a digital detox? It’s a great way to start off the year. Even better, commit to a few technology-free days (or hours) to spend with family each month.

You can even use the extra time to tackle other resolutions like home cooking, exercising, or getting outside.
