Social Distancing, Sanitizer, and Masks: Tips for Navigating the New Normal at Cathedral Oaks Athletic Club

Kids play tennis at Cathedral Oaks Athletic Club

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve had a lot of difficult decisions to make. Closing our doors was just one of them. But knowing we were protecting our community and slowing the spread made that choice easier. We were—and always will be—committed to keeping our members safe and healthy. Now, as Santa Barbara has moved into phase 3 of reopening, we’re thrilled to welcome our members back to the club. Rest assured, our commitment to your well-being is stronger than ever.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been getting a lot of questions about changes to our classes, amenities, and facility. Here are some of the new guidelines we’ve implemented to ensure our Cathedral Oaks community stays safe and healthy in the coming months.

New safety precautions

All guests will need to have their temperature taken upon arrival. As a precaution, we’re asking anybody with a temperature above 100 degrees fahrenheit to stay home, rest up, and come back when you’re feeling better.

We’re also asking our guests to protect each other by wearing masks when they enter the club, are in or walking through a communal space, and when working out within 6 feet of other members. If you’re able to maintain appropriate social distancing during your workout, then your mask may be removed for the duration.

Finally, while we’ll be cleaning more frequently in accordance with CDC guidelines, we ask that each of our members do their part as well. By being courteous and wiping down equipment after each use, you’re helping keep others safe – and don’t forget to wash or sanitize your hands afterwards!

Social distancing guidelines

First things first: yes! The pools are open, so stop by for a relaxing dip during these warm summer days. We ask that you just be mindful if you are swimming in our lap pool and limit it to one person per lane.

Our outdoor hot tubs are also available. Come unwind after a long week or relax after a particularly difficult training session. Again, please just make sure you’re maintaining at least 6 feet of distance between you and others.

Our group exercise classes have also returned to their normal schedules. Don’t forget to book your spot on our website! We are limiting class sizes, so make sure to reserve early —classes open up for booking the day before the class starts. For the time being, all of our group x classes (aside from spin and swim) will be held in the Performance Tent.

Temporary closures

Kids’ Club and the Cafe will not be returning just yet. We want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to keep our community safe and healthy.

We’ve also removed our indoor seating, but outdoor seating is available. Why not take advantage of the gorgeous, sunny Santa Barbara weather?

Welcome back!

Since we first opened our doors, we’ve been committed to our community. We understand that Cathedral Oaks Athletic Club isn’t just a place to lift weights or play tennis. It’s where you belong. Now, more than ever, we’re grateful for these meaningful and long-lasting relationships. While some things have changed, our love for our members has remained the same. We’re excited to welcome you back!
